As we prepare to gather for the 2026 WAMFT Annual Conference: Roots for Connection Deepening Systemic Practice in Changing Times, we are incredibly excited to welcome a very special guest who will join us on Friday to help close our first day together.

Sahar will join us Friday afternoon for a special Systemic Leadership in Action address before we transition into an evening 50 years in the making: WAMFT’s 50th Anniversary Celebration!
And we couldn’t think of a more fitting way to bring Day One to a close.
Systemic Leadership in Action
As Marriage and Family Therapists, we are trained to look beyond the individual.
We pay attention to relationships.
Families.
Communities.
Culture.
Institutions.
Power.
Context.
And the larger systems that shape people’s lives.
But systemic thinking doesn’t stop at the therapy room door.
Sahar’s career offers us an opportunity to zoom that systemic lens outward and consider what systemic leadership can look like across communities, organizations, government, policy, and public life.
For more than 15 years, Sahar has worked across public policy, government, law, education, advocacy, and community leadership.
Today, she serves as Chief Impact Officer for the Washington State Governor’s Office.
Her career has also included policy and leadership roles within the Governor’s Office, Washington State Attorney General’s Office, King County, and the City of Seattle.
She is a past president and co-founder of the Middle Eastern Legal Association of Washington and founder of its Legal Clinic, the first Middle Eastern Legal Clinic of its kind in the country. She has also served as adjunct faculty at Seattle University and the University of Washington School of Law.
Across these roles, her work has brought together something that feels especially meaningful for our community: Systems. Leadership. Community. Impact.
We are incredibly excited to announce that Sahar Fathi will be joining us on Friday, September 25 to help us close the first day of conference and transition us into an evening that has been 50 years in the making: WAMFT’s 50th Anniversary Celebration.
