As we close out the year, I want to take a moment to share my sincere gratitude—for your trust, your collaboration, and your commitment to the work of marriage and family therapy across Washington State. Serving as your president this past year has been both a meaningful honor and a powerful learning experience. I’ve been inspired by the ways our members show up every day for clients, families, and communities—often in complex and challenging circumstances—with integrity, creativity, and care.
This year also reminded me how much strength we carry as a professional community when we stay connected. And as we look ahead, I want to be honest: 2025 may bring challenges—professionally, politically, and personally—for many of us and for the communities we serve. In uncertain times, it becomes even more important that we remain engaged, informed, and aligned with one another. WAMFT is strongest when members participate, speak up, contribute their expertise, and stay rooted in the values that bring us together.
I’m also deeply hopeful. One of the most exciting directions for WAMFT moving forward is expanded collaboration with other mental health and health professionals across the state. We’re committed to strengthening partnerships that enhance advocacy, deepen professional connections, and support the systems that allow our members to thrive—so that you can continue to serve your clients and communities with excellence. We believe the future of care is integrated, relational, and community-informed—and we’re energized to be part of shaping that future alongside you.
Before we step into the new year, I want to celebrate those who have helped move our association forward through service, leadership, and impact. Please join me in congratulating this year’s WAMFT award winners:
Diversity Award: Tania Guadalupe del Real
WAMFT Volunteer of the Year: Holleigh Humhart
Supervisor of the Year: Sean Orpen
Distinguished Clinical Fellow: Douglas Jones
We are grateful for your contributions and proud to recognize the difference you’ve made.
As you plan for the year ahead, I also want to remind everyone about a few key opportunities to learn and connect:
Spring Ethics Series – an excellent way to stay current, reflective, and supported in ethical practice
Early Bird Conference Registration – take advantage of early pricing and make space now for professional renewal and community
Thank you again for welcoming me into this first year as president. I’m grateful to serve alongside our board, our volunteers, and our members—and I’m confident that even in a challenging year, we can meet what’s ahead with resilience, collaboration, and shared purpose.
Wishing you rest, connection, and renewal as we head into the new year.
Cheers to 2025,
Billie Tyler, PhD, LMFT
