CARE BEGINS HERE is an in-depth assessment that guides therapists in gathering information regarding clients’ experiences of oppression. It is a practical tool for supporting the ethical practice of non-discrimination as defined in clinical Codes of Ethics and affirms that acknowledging oppression is invaluable in case conceptualization and treatment planning. More than a checklist, the tool provides open-ended questions to help the therapist and client collaboratively explore the nuanced ways in which oppression can manifest. The assessment expands on the work of thinkers like Pamela Hayes, who outlined the ADDRESSING model, as well as other leading theorists in the realm of anti-oppression therapies.
