988 Launched in Washington



On July 16, 2022, the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline launched in Washington State following the passage of House Bill 1477 (E2SHB 1477) in 2021. The current National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (NSPL) number, 1-800-273-TALK (8255) , remains active alongside 988. This one step of many in a multi-year rollout, and though there are many refinements still to be addressed at this early stage, this is an important step forward in providing care for those experiencing a mental health crisis, Read the Department of Health's update for more info and services for diverse individuals.
