About the Event

Training Overview

The purpose of this training is to provide mental health practitioners (e.g., LMFTs, LMHCs, LICSWs) with empirically supported strategies for assessing and intervening with suicidal clients using a systemic framework. Participants will learn about the specific factors that are important to consider when assessing for risk and suicidal behavior from this lens, including how to assess for suicidal risk with multiple people in the room and understanding the unique environmental, social, and cultural considerations that may impact their risk. Additionally, the training will explore how these same risk factors can also be used as strategies for connecting clients to community and enhance resiliency.

Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  1. Identify suicidal risk in clients and implement evidence based prevention strategies
  2. Systemically assess for suicidal ideation and behavior including identify the different types of suicidal behavior and non-suicidal self-injurious behavior
  3. Gain skills for developing safety and crisis prevention plans
  4. Implement Evidence based systemic intervention for suicidal and non-suicidal self-injurious behavior
  5. Engage in ethical decision making and best practice documentation
  6. Understand population specific considerations for assessing and intervening with suicidal risk, including Veterans and children/youth
