About the Event
Session Description
Transgender people often have varied expectations and experiences when coming out to their families. Responses from loved ones range from overt support to initial surprise, confusion, and/or grief. Unfortunately, statements or behaviors of rejection are not impossible, particularly related to religious values and misconceptions of sex and gender identities. This increases risk of relational cut-offs, often perpetuated by hurt and misunderstanding in multiple directions, damaging hope (or desire) for reconciliation. This presentations offers an alternative. It will address how clinicians can offer support for members of the system and their ongoing relationships.
