Since 1942, AAMFT has been involved in the problems, needs and changing patterns of couple and family relationships. Marriage and family therapy means the diagnosis and treatment of mental and emotional disorders, whether cognitive, affective, or behavioral within the context of marriages and family systems. The AAMFT leads the way to increasing understanding, research, and education in the field of marriage and family therapy, and to ensuring that the public needs are met by well-trained practitioners.
